Never “Christmas-Tree” a Test

Never “Christmas-Tree” a test, or your business messaging.

Being wishy washy is a very dangerous thing.
You may have heard people raving about clarity of vision, and there’s more than one reason for that. It’s part of being aligned and gaining momentum in 1 particular direction. Think about it like this: if you answer all “B”s on a multiple-choice test, the odds are your score will be much higher than if you “Christmas-treed” the test. So, if you go around telling everyone your message is “B” then 1 out of 4 times, someone is going to resonate with your message. But, if you’re telling some people you are “B” and some people you are “D” and some people “A,” then you are significantly lowering your odds of the next person resonating with you. Further, you are really just confusing people which, which, consciously or not, deters people. They want to know exactly who you are, what you do and what to expect. Switching between B, D and A, doesn’t convey this.

It’s also a dangerous thing for YOU. Just as you are confusing potential consumers, you are confusing yourself. When you are very clear on your goals, your messaging, and your core values, decision making becomes a lot easier. There are fewer competing options. It can feel counter intuitive to be super specific about certain things (like your target client), especially when you are starting out, but it really is one of the surest and quickest ways to fast track your success.

Now this is not to say that you can’t change your mind, or pivot, BUT, you need to make that decision consciously and be sure it aligns with your core values and purpose. If you find yourself going back and forth regularly, or being wishy washy about decisions and direction, it’s time to ask yourself why. Are you, perhaps, pursuing a path that isn’t aligned with your ultimate purpose, passion, or overall goals? Or are you not setting boundaries for yourself? Take the time to WRITE OUT your vision and at least 3 core values/principles to stick to and 3 goals/outcomes you want to see with timelines attached. If you really dissect your vision and break down your goals into a plan, the effect is going to be much greater. Every time you make a decision in your business, or evaluate what isn’t working, check on what you wrote to see what aligns.
